Compounding: to place together; the combining of two or more chemicals.
General Compounding
Encapsulation machines can be used to precisely fill capsules of various sizes with the exact dosage which is needed. Many color combinations are available to elminate patient confusion with regard to "look-alike medications. Should the patient require, multiple medications can be combined into a single capsule. Modified-release formulations may be used to improve compliance.
Sterile injectables and nebulizer solutions (in multiple and single dose containers) can be compounded to contain the most appropriate concentration and combination medications, to meet the needs of the individual patient.
Why compound?
There are many reasons why a physician or veterinarian might wish to make use of our compounding facilities.
When a particular medicine is available only in certain dosages, and another dosage is needed.
- When a medicine is needed in a form not commercially available, whether tablet, capsule, suppository, or liquid.
- When a pharmaceutical company no longer manufactures a particular medicine.
- When there is little demand for a drug and the manufacturers won't make it.
- When a child or animal doesn't like the taste of a particular medicine.
- When a patient wants or needs preservative-free, dye-free, lactose-free, etc. medication.
- When a formula is not commercially available.
- When a patient is allergic to a commercially available form of medicine.
